Richard Wachira (Ritchie)

Ritchie hails from Kenya, with a passion for Experiential Learning and Outdoor Adventure programs. He believes Challenge, Skills, Learning and FUN can be integrated as essential tools to model Personal Development, Leadership and growth.

He worked in the Adventure programming field – primarily in facilitating roles (NSW, Australia 2012, 2018) facilitator & Media Tec (Vancouver 2014), Field Coordinator & Program Manager (Kenya 2015-2020), whilst developing Outdoor Learning Curriculums in Africa.

His outdoor education background is anchored on Cert III Australian qualification (2021) and further consolidated by Mountain Bike Instructor Award Scheme (M.I.A.S) L3, British Cycling L2 Bike qualification, Single Pitch Canyon Guide + Swift Water Rescue (2018), and Rock – Single Pitch Supervisor Award (S.P.S.A) Durban 2018.

He further gained assessor level for Duke of Edinburgh (2016), Wilderness First Aid (Austere First Aid 2022- Hong Kong) and completed his Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (P.G.C.E.i) -Nottingham University 2021.

He has assisted and lao led activities such as Hiking, Mountaineering, Canyoneering, Canoeing, Kayaking, Archery, Abseiling, Caving, Adventure Ropes Course, Orienteering, and Jetty Jumping, using these skills as a vehicle to engage, interact, impact, challenge and inspire individuals and groups.

Finding those “teachable Moments” makes it worthwhile. Meanwhile, he is saving up for a camel that can cross oceans because my dream destination is Guatemala, and his students help him plan his adventures every day.
