Michael John Yu (Micmic)
Safety & Equipment Store Manager and Outdoor Facilitator
Originally from Baroy, Lanao del Norte in the southern Philippines, Michael “Micmic” Yu’s love for the outdoors began during his university years, where he discovered his passion for teaching and adventure. His journey into the outdoor industry started with becoming a Basic Mountaineering Course Instructor, but it was his deep connection to SCUBA diving that truly captured his heart. Micmic went on to become a PADI Dive Master and a BSAC Open Water Instructor, combining his love for the ocean with his desire to share its beauty with others.
In September 2009, Micmic joined the Asia Pacific Adventure (APA) team as an Outdoor Facilitator, bringing his energy, skills, and passion to the programs. His technical expertise grew with the completion of a Rescue 3 Technical Rope Technician award and a WMA Wilderness First Responder qualification, allowing him to better lead and ensure safety during outdoor adventures.
Over the years, Micmic’s role has evolved, and today he serves as the Safety & Equipment Store Manager. In this key role, he oversees the gear, food, and equipment that support APA’s operations across dozens of locations throughout Asia. He faces new challenges daily, ensuring that every program runs smoothly and safely for participants and staff alike.
For Micmic, every day is an opportunity to inspire others to explore and grow in the great outdoors. Whether he’s leading an adventure or managing the logistical side of operations, he is always focused on providing a memorable, safe, and impactful experience for all.
