Prevention over cure.
Every Camp APA day is carefully planned, so campers can try new things with confidence: trained facilitators, the right gear and a clear plan behind every activity. Safety comes first in everything we do, before the climbing, the paddling and the fun. It’s part of our culture, not a form we fill in.
For 25 years, APA has run outdoor programs for 50+ international schools across Asia. Camp APA runs on exactly the same safety systems.

The same standards, wherever we go.
Camp APA runs in Hong Kong every Easter, summer and winter. Our summer trips go further, to Thailand and to Cebu in the Philippines, and run on exactly the same systems: the same team, the same ratios, the same safety management and 24/7 operational support.
For overseas trips, we meet campers at the destination airport and look after them from arrival to departure. See the summer trips
Questions worth asking any camp provider
Not every holiday camp is run to the same standard. Before you book anywhere, ask these four questions. Here are our answers.
Ratios set by the activity
Every team of up to 12 campers has its own lead facilitator. As activities get more technical, we add facilitators. A camp manager oversees every program.
These ratios are our standard guideline. We can always add facilitators based on campers’ ability and level, or the conditions on the day.
| Activity type | Ratio |
|---|---|
| General land activitiesGames, nature exploring, team challenges, campcraft | 1 : 12 |
| Hiking and gorge walkingWith additional staff supervising safety | 1 : 9 |
| Water and high-ropes activitiesKayaking, snorkelling, Tyrolean traverse, abseiling, climbing | 1 : 6 |
What keeps campers safe
The people behind every camp: Meet the APA team
Built up gradually
Every Camp APA activity is progressive. Where we go, how far and how technical it gets is set by campers’ age and ability, so they meet new environments one step at a time. Discoverers start with streams, beaches and short trails; Explorers try their first abseil; Adventurers move on to real rock; Navigators take on three crags and rig their own zip line. Water works the same way, from calm, shallow bays to longer paddles as skills grow.
Nobody is rushed to the next step. Campers are encouraged, never forced.
Water safety
Campers don’t need to be strong swimmers. We start in sheltered, shallow water close to shore and only go further as campers’ age and paddling skills allow. Nobody is simply sent out into open sea. Everyone wears a buoyancy aid for any water activity deeper than knee height, and water activities run at one facilitator to six campers.
Climbing and ropes safety
Campers don’t need to be experienced climbers. Younger campers start close to the ground with short, well-supported challenges and plenty of coaching; older campers build up to full climbs at real crags. Facilitators fit and check every piece of equipment before each activity, and roped activities run at one facilitator to six campers.
All gear provided
Whatever the activity, on land or on water, every piece of safety and technical equipment comes from leading industry brands and is provided by APA. Facilitators fit and check it before each use. Parents never need to buy any of it; just pack the everyday items on our packing list.
Weather decisions
We follow the Hong Kong Observatory. If a Black Rainstorm Warning or Typhoon Signal No. 3 or above is in force at 6:30am, that day is cancelled and a make-up day is arranged. APA may also adjust activities or locations on the day for safety.
Safe, and it shows.
“My kid joined their 5D4N Navigator camp and loved it. Although the weather was not perfect, the counsellors in the camp totally managed it. She’s grown up a lot after just 5 days.”
