SPRING EXPEDITIONS

Age: 12 – 17.

Parents are welcome to join private groups

Duration: There are four options for duration

– 2 day expedition

– 3 day expedition

– 5 day expedition

– Custom length expedition: For private groups of 6 or more who wish to go for longer than 5 days. Contact Camp APA team at spring@apa.co if you are interested in this option.

Hong Kong is renowned for is incredible hiking and with the huge number and variety of trails there’s always somewhere new to explore. The Spring Expeditions are overnight hiking programs designed to give participants the responsibiliy and freedom to choose where they want to go. The 2 and 3 day expeditions will be based in Sai Kung Country Park while the 5 day expedition can be anywhere that the group and their Camp APA facilitator decide they want to go. Whether its beaches or mountains, hidden villages or deserted forests, the options are many.

Participants will take the lead in plotting their route, designing their meal plan, cooking their food, setting up camp and manage the group. The Camp APA facilitator will offer guidance and safety instruction when needed but will allow participants to take responisibiliy for themselves and the group as a whole.

What is included in the program price?

– Qualified Camp APA facilitator
– All food for the entire expedition

What will the participant need to bring?


– Backpack that has at least 60L capacity
– Sleeping bag and sleeping mat
– Good hiking footwear
– Clothes and toiletries
– Water bottles that make up at least 2L capacity
– Eating utensils: bowl, spoon, cup etc.
– Octopus card/cash for public transportation

Pre Program Planning Session


Location:
APA Outdoor Shop, Wong Chuk Hang
Date:
Friday before the expedition
Time:
4:00pm – 5:30pm

This is a compulsory planning session for all participants. Parents and guardians are welcome to join but they are not required to. At this session the participants will make a rough route and meal plan for their trip. The Camp APA facilitator will also go over what equipment the participants will need to bring as well as some logistical information for the expedition.

2 Day and 3 Day Expeditions

2 Day – $1750

3 Day – $2250

Location: Sai Kung Country Park

Meeting/Pick Up Point: Sai Kung Tang Shiu Kin Sports Ground, Sai Kung

Meeting Time: 9:00am on first day

Pick up time: 5:00pm on last day

After meeting at the sports ground the group will plan their route in more detail and purchase their food for the expedition. Once they are packed and ready to go they will catch a bus to the start of their hike. They will spend the next 2 or 3 days hiking through Sai Kung Country Park, learning and practicing how to manage a hiking expedition including setting up camp, cooking for each other, navigating and leading the group. The will finish by returning to the sports ground by 5:00pm on the last day.

5 Day Expedition

Location: Any country park in Hong Kong that is agreed upon by the group and the Camp APA facilitator

Meeting/Pick Up Point: APA Outdoor Shop, Wong Chuk Hang

Meeting Time: 9:00am on first day

Pick up time: 5:00pm on last day

After meeting at the APA Outdoor Shop the group will plan their route in more detail and purchase their food for the expedition. Once they are packed and ready to go they will catch public transport to the start of their hike. They will spend the next 5 days hiking through their chosen region, learning and practicing how to manage a hiking expedition including setting up camp, cooking for each other, navigating and leading the group. The will finish by returning to the APA Outdoor Shop by 5:00pm on the last day.
