Exploration is curiosity put into action.

The Explorer Camps are designed for younger children to explore nature and the outdoors with old and new friends. They learn new skills, explore their natural surroundings and the wildlife around them while gaining knowledge and experience. While in camp, they will learn to be independent, organized and build self-confidence.

The exact order of activity days and locations may vary for each individual camp and registered participants should refer to the itinerary in their Information Pack for the most accurate itinerary.

Itinerary (Explorer Winter Overnight Camp – 5 days 2 nights)

Tai Tam Scout Centre – Low Ropes Course & Bouldering

Participants head to Tai Tam Scout Center, with its large grassy fields, surrounded by lush hills. Working as a team, they will tackle the Low Ropes Course. The goal is to complete a series of challenges, walking on wooden beams, balancing on steel cables, or avoiding brushing against ropes. Teams decide on the best strategy to get them through. The second activity is bouldering on a low climbing wall. This is a great way to get comfortable with basic climbing techniques. The goal is to complete a variety of routes, most of them moving sideways, remaining at a low height.

Shek O – Survival & Tyrolean

Participants will head to the Shek O, a short walk away from the popular white sand beach. After going through a helmet and harness safety session, participants will tackle an exhilarating challenge on the Tyrolean traverse, where participants traverse across from one cliff to the next. The day is also an opportunity to get hands-on experience of a variety of survival activities.

Training For Life – High Ropes Course

Participants will head to Training For Life Adventure Training Centre in the northern New Territories. After a thorough safety briefing, they will put on harnesses and helmets. Under the guidance of professional trainers, participants will climb high up and tackle multiple High Ropes challenges. While participants will tackle obstacles high up on a course, the rest of the team help belay. Participants will spend their nights in a dormitory in Tai Po.

Bride’s Pool – Gorge walk & river boat challenge

Participants will head to Bride’s Pool near Tai Po, where mountain streams have carved deep valleys. Participants will put on helmets and learn techniques for a gorge walk. They will work together as a team to scramble safely on rocky terrain, clambering over big boulders and scrambling on steep slopes in the jungle. There are multiple clear mountain pools and waterfalls. They will discover the unique flora and fauna that reside within this hidden ecosystem.

Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve – Stream Exploration, Forest & Wildlife Discovery

Participants will head to Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve. The area is home to over 100 different species of trees, many of them 100 years old. The focus is on Stream Exploration, Forest & Wildlife Discovery. Participants will explore the area and learn about a variety of fragile ecosystems. They will try and spot wildlife – fish and toads in rock pools, butterflies, birds the tree canopy as well as small mammals.
