Teaching children about the natural world should be treated as one of the most important events in their lives.

Thomas Berry

The Explorer Camps are designed for younger children to explore nature and the outdoors with old and new friends. They learn new skills, explore their natural surroundings and the wildlife around them while gaining knowledge and experience. While on camp, they will learn to be independent, organized and build self-confidence.

Itinerary (Day Camp)

Day 1

Teams will make their way inside Shing Mun Reservoir for a day of exploring and fun team activities where they will engage in challenges developed to promote their social skills as well as getting to know their new teammates. Participants will learn navigation skills early on in the day and test those skills with a student-led hike around the reservoir. There are a variety of animals that reside within the reservoir and participants will have a chance to observe them from a distance.

Day 2 & 3

Teams will depart for Mo Tat Wan and Lo So Shing Beach on Lamma Island. The teams will take turns throughout the two days rotating between a set of activities. One group will take part in the exciting Tyrolean Traverse where they will glide across the vegetation below before heading to the beach for a range of activities. One group will head directly to the beach where they will take part in a Survival Challenge, an Art Challenge and a Beach Cleanup before having a swim to cool off. The two groups will swap on Day 3 to complete the rotation.

Day 4

Teams will head into the heart of Sai Kung Country Park where they will take part in a full day Gorge Trek. Prior to the trek, participants will put on helmets and learn various skills and spotting techniques to safely trek through the gorge. Along the trek they will also take part in a Shelter Building Challenge as well as discovering local flora and fauna.

Day 5

The final day will consist of a Star Challenge at Aberdeen Country Park. The challenge will test the teamwork of each group, as well as skills and knowledge from throughout the week as they compete to end the day as the top team!
