Asia's Top Adventure Athlete Team wraps up year in style.

What a great finish to 2008 ...and start to 2009 for our Athlete team.

Action Asia ChampTeam members Ryan S. Blair and Piers Touzel ripped apart the year ending Action Asia Challenge, still Asia's most competitive and high-profile one-day adventure race. Racing as THE NORTH FACE - Flight they led most the way to finish the 70km Lantau Island course in 6 hours 59 min -an hour ahead of the predicted winning time. The 2nd place team, which included a past 5-time champion, pushed Ryan and Piers hard but they were able to pull away in the final technical coasteer and last paddling section. ImageThe rest of the fall season had many highlights including two course records in the Wilson Trail endurance running champs, one of Asia's largest trail running events. Stone Keung and Kai Wai won the overall open division in style by breaking the course record by 20 minutes. Ryan and Jeanette Holmes-Thompson also had a huge race, breaking the mixed division 30km race by a full 1 hour. It was amazing Jeanette was even able to finish as less than 30% into the course she fell down a staircase and ripped a huge hole in her knee. Ryan patched her up on the MTR ride mid-race and somehow Jeanette held on to the finish.

Wulong08September’s Wu Long Mountain Quest, an epic 4-day stage event in Mainland China & Asia’s biggest adventure race of year, was a huge test for the team as they battled against the world’s top adventure racing teams from New Zealand, USA and Europe. Piers, Wei Biao, Jeanette, and Ryan teamed up and had an awesome race, consistently finishing each day in the top eight and beating some solid teams in several stages including last years World Champions, team Nike. The North Face Greater China team achieved its best result yet in the event, taking 8th overall and was first amongst all teams from Asia. For full press report on the event click here.
