Trailwalker, Action Asia Challenge, and Great Wall MTB Champions!

What an end to 2007, and start to 2008 for The North Face Greater China Team.

WilsonOctober was huge with new team members Kai Wa (Hong Kong) and Wei Biao (Mainland China) adding a boost to the team. Both played key roles in winning the overall and mixed team categories respectively in the 78km Wilson Trail Champs. Jeanette and Wei Biao managed to break the mixed course record, while Stone and Kai Wai held on for the overall win despite Stone falling ill with stomach cramps and nearly having to quit the race.

Also in October was a convincing Hong Kong victory by Kai Wai in the 42km Sowers Action Challenge trail run, and top performances in Taiwan by Jeanette, Stone and Ryan in a sprint solo adventure race put on by The North Face. In another impressive HK performance, Stone broke the course record in the 2007 Care Action mountain running race, winning against over 2,000 runners.

jeane.action.taiwanAfter several attempt’s with past teams, Stone and Kai Wai’s dream came true in November by winning one of Asia’s most coveted trail running events, Hong Kong’s 100km Trailwalker. They fought neck and neck with past Champions Gurkas and Cosmo Boys right up until the last 10 km, only finally pulling away from the Cosmo team the in last few km and winning by just two minutes in 12 hours 24 minutes.

Action AsiaAfter last years Action Asia Challenge race was stolen away from Ryan and Piers with a hole in the kayak organizers provided, it was extra sweet to see team The North Face – Flight run away with the overall title this year on 15th December. Stone and Ryan had to fend off a big challenge from past champions Tawian Excubar. The North Face –Flight led by a few minutes into the final kayak leg and powered home with a 10 minute victory to become the years’ only Action Asia Challenge champions.

NongPing2008 has started where 2007 left off. Stone clinched another New Years Day win in the NE Mountain Marathon and both Jeanette and Stone have already sewn up the King of the Hills Series Overall Championship in January.
