Fall 2007 - Athlete team keeps up the podium pace

ImageOur Athlete team continues to ride high with confidence after some great recent results heading into the fall/winter racing season.

ImageStone rocked Hong Kong’s established paddling community by showing up to the annual Open Marathon Canoeing Championship and winning the sea kayak class. The race was certainly not stress free as Stone missed a turn at the end of the race and lost his lead, before powering home the last kilometer and taking victory in a super close finish after 2.5 hours of racing.

ImageIn August, China hosted one of the most significant Adventure Races of the year, the Wulong Mountain Quest, with several of the world’s top 10 teams present and a US$100,000 prize purse. Piers, Stone, Jeanette and Ryan raced as The North Face Greater China team and pulled off a top ten finish and were 2nd amongst all teams from Asia. The 4-day stage event was a huge challenge with world champions Team Nike leading the pace and 7-9 hours of racing each day. Jeanette deserves special mention for keeping up with the guys and racing hard against the worlds best, many who had teams of 4 men racing.

ImageSeptembers’ Gatorade Action Asia Off-road was a speed race involving an 8km trail run followed by a 15km technical mountain bike on Lantau Island. Team member, Ryan S. Blair, pulled off a 2-minute overall victory posting the fastest mountain bike and run for those who did both legs.

ImageThe same weekend, Esther won the overall title in an adventure race in Singapore, continuing her dominance of the local scene in Singapore and Malaysia since coming back from the Adventure Race World Championships in May.

ImageMore recently, Stone and new team member Wong Ka Wai won the Lantau Mountain Express, a new 80 km 2-day stage trail running event. They were the only team to finish the entire course. Last but not least, congrats to Jeanette who recently wrapped up the overall women’s title in this summers King of the Hills series, winning all 3 races.
