Champion System Adventure have pulled off a great weekend of adventure sport in Asia, retaining the overall championship in Thailand’s River Kwai Trophy and taking 1st and 2nd place honors in Hong Kong’s final King of the Hills series race.

The River Kwai Trophy, with 125 teams and perhaps the regions biggest adventurerace, was an epic battle to the end with Thailand’s top team - made up of two Navy Seal triathletes - pushing Champion System Adventure all the way.

The pace was relentless from the start gun despite the blistering heat, as bothteams swapped the lead. Champion System Adventure, which included Australian Klayten Smith and Thai/Khmer local star Jantaraboon kiangchaipriphana, managed to take a mid-way advantage on their bikes, until a broken chain nearly ended their race when it almost dropped into a creek next to the trail.  Klayten commented, “luckily we fixed the chain fast and hammered our way back to the front, but with four river crossing swims in the race we were worried about getting caught as this was not our strongest discipline.”  In the end, a 6km up-stream kayak was where Champion System Adventure opened a small one minute gap and managed to hold on for a 50 second victory after 4 hours of racing. Testament to the incredible pace displayed by bothteams, 3rd place team Chiru, one of Asia’s stronger teams, was nearly 30 minutes behind at the finish.

In Hong Kong, both Tsang Sui Kung (Stone) and Darren Benson put on a solid show in the season-ending THE NORTH FACE King of the Hills series, running away from the field in a 1-2 finish.  The successful result was especially sweet as both Stone and Darren are returning after injuries at the end of 2010.  Team Director, Ryan S. Blair, mentioned, “I’m so proud of the way these guys have bounced back. Staying healthy and fit takes so much commitment and discipline at their level and we are all looking forward to building on these results further in 2011.”
